Mr. Covell graduated cum laude from Central Michigan University in 1978,
with a major in Journalism/Public Relations. After serving as the first director of the Muskegon County
Convention/Visitors Bureau, he worked as vice-president of the Muskegon Area Chamber of Commerce. Mr Covell entered
law school in 1993, and graduated magna cum laude from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1995. While at Cooley,
he earned American Jurisprudence Awards in Contracts II and Trial Advocacy, and served on the Law Review. Mr
Covell returned to Muskegon, where he was in private practice before joining Lague, Newman & Irish.
Mr. Covell is a member of the American Bar Association,
the Michigan State Bar, the Probate and Estate Planning Section of the State Bar, the Elder Law and
Advocacy Section of the State Bar, the Muskegon County Bar Association, and the National Academy of Elder
Law Attorneys. He is admitted to practice in the state courts in Michigan and the Western District of the U.S.
District Court. Mr Covell also volunteers his time for several organizations in the community.
Mr. Covell's practice focus is in Elder law, probate and estate
planning, including guardianships/conservatorships, and Medicaid planning. He also practices in the areas
of general contract law, collections and real estate, including residential purchase/sale agreements
and landlord-tenant issues.
